Middle East: Food Prices Drop in Gaza in Response to Humanitarian Aid

Written by Edda Bevilacqua

Prices for food and other goods have plummeted in Gaza in response to Israel’s efforts to bring humanitarian aid into the territory. The Jerusalem Post reported:

New internal the Israeli security establishment shows a sharp decline in the prices of basic goods in Gaza following the massive influx of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip in recent weeks. Israel officials say the influx of humanitarian aid will continue, and is expected to grow, in the coming weeks.

The drop in prices reflects an increase in supply, thwarting the efforts of Hamas terrorists, even though 80 percent of U.N. aid trucks have been looted. Hamas published pictures of starving children who were later found to have genetic diseases and other illnesses. Many of these children have been helped by Israeli humanitarian organizations. Israel has backed alternatives to U.N.-based organizations, such as the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which distributes meals individually rather than in bulk.
