Ukraine: Ukraine Hits Russian Energy Targets

Ukraine launched strikes on Russian energy sites but denied Russia’s claim that a Ukrainian drone had struck a Kremlin-occupied nuclear power plant. Drone strikes set fire to a fuel storage facility in the Rostov region of southern Russia. Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian energy centers, which they said have fueled the four-year war against Ukraine. However, Ukraine denied Russia’s claim that it struck the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Alexander Likhachev, CEO of the state-owned nuclear energy company Rosatom, said a Ukrainian drone struck the turbine hall building of the plant: “This afternoon, a Ukrainian kamikaze combat drone struck the turbine hall building of Power Plant Unit Number 6, resulting in a detonation.” Ukraine denied this, saying it was “well aware of the consequences of any actions targeting nuclear facilities.”

Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, both Moscow and Kyiv have blamed one another for targeting the Zaporizhzhia power plant on purpose.
