Zelenskyy Meets with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss negotiations aimed toward ending the war with Russia. Also present at the talks were French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Zelenskyy said the talks would focus on helping Ukraine’s war effort, including air defense. Zelenskyy said, “Europe must be part of the negotiations and must be strong.”

The meeting comes in the wake of a Russian drone strike that killed three people in southern Ukraine. A separate attack damaged a storage center for spent nuclear fuel located nine miles north of the Chernobyl power plant.  The Russian attacks followed a Ukrainian drone attack on St. Petersburg. Russian President Vladimir Putin regarded this attack as a distant event that didn’t affect Russian daily life and rejected Zelenskyy’s offer to meet, saying there was “no point in it.”
