Aryna Sabalenka Wins Women’s Title in Straight Sets Over Amanda Anisimova

Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defeated Amanda Anisimova of the United States in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, to take her second consecutive U.S. Open title. Sabalenka came into the U.S. Open with runner-up finishes at the Australian Open and French Open. She also lost in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon to Amanda Anisimova. 

Initially, Anisimova came out strong to take a 3-2 lead against Sabalenka in the first set, but Sabalenka was able to take the first set 6-3. The second set went into a tiebreak, which Sabalenka won easily, 7-3.

Sabalenka said, “It’s been a tough year, but the feeling is now just beyond words. I am speechless right now.” She then proceeded to speak for fifteen minutes, praising Anisimova, thanking her coaches and support team and telling the crowd how much she appreciated them.

Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Jannik Sinner to Win Second U.S. Open Title

Carlos Alcaraz of Spain defeated Italy’s Jannik Sinner in four sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. U.S. President Donald Trump was in the audience at the final. Alcaraz said, “I think it is a privilege for the tournaments having the President from every country just to support the tournament, to support tennis, and to support the match.”

Alcaraz won his first U.S. Open title in 2022, defeating Casper Ruud of Norway. The 22-year-old Spaniard now has a total of six Major titles and rises to number one in the world. The Australian Open is the only Major Alcaraz has not yet won.
