Strategizing for Business Growth

If your business is not in growth, it is in decay.  Read on for a few tips on Strategizing for Business Growth.

As a small business owner, you know that for any business to be successful, it must have growth.  How do you define business growth?  Business growth can be defined as an increase in market reach and profits and can be caused by expanding your customer base or selling more of your products or services.  There are several types of business growth:  Organic, Strategic, Internal, and Mergers, Partnerships, or Acquisitions.  Decide on the most effective type of growth you need for your business, and then you can strategize for that growth.  A growth strategy is your company’s game plan to get bigger and better.  Here are a few tips on strategizing for your business growth.

  1. Set a SMART goal:  Step one to strategize growth for your business is setting a clear, organized goal defining that growth.  Do you want more profits, more products, more customers?  Use the SMART method to create a clear goal.  S is for Specific.  The more specific, the better.  Write down your goal in as much detail as possible for what you want to accomplish.  M is for Measurable.  Set a timeline with steps that can be measured when achieved.  A is Attainable.  Is this goal possible for you?  Is it possible in the timeline you have defined?  R is Realistic.  Do you have historical data that this goal is feasible for your business?  Is it an attainable, realistic goal or something you want that is not possible?  And finally, T is Timely.  When you set up the timeline for your goal, ensure that the timeliness of the goal is within reason and something that you will be able to achieve without losing sight or hope of the finish line.
  2.   Options for Growth Strategies: What method will you use to strategize for your business growth?  When you set a clear goal using the SMART method, you can then decide on the method for accomplishing that growth goal.  Revenue growth focuses on increasing your top-line income.  This is typically done by ramping up sales, and your sales team’s skills.  A Market Expansion strategy looks at taking your existing products into new markets.  When you concentrate on increasing your customer base you are utilizing the Customer Growth strategy.  Operational Growth strategies involve enhancing internal processes to help you scale more proficiently and efficiently.  Your aim is to grow profitability by reducing waste, cutting costs and speeding up productivity.
  3. Execute, Monitor and Adjust: Effective execution requires disciplined monitoring, agility and ongoing adjustments.  Set up regular check-ins as you work on your growth strategies.  Determine what is working and what is not.  Adjust accordingly using analytics and other metrics designed to help you optimize for sustainability.  You definitely want your growth strategies to be long term to ensure your business’s success.

Having a growth plan is critical to the success of your business.  If it is not in growth, it is in decay, meaning it will not succeed.  Building an effective growth strategy requires meticulous planning and disciplined execution.  Think about what type of growth you want for your business, then you can set a clear SMART goal and determine the best growth strategy for your success.  If you need help in strategizing for your business growth, reach out to Classy Communications today.  We can help.  Contact us www.ClassyCommunications.net.  And please follow us on LinkedIn at ClassyCommunications PR & Advertising.
