Women’s Final: Aryna Sabalenka Wins Third Madrid Title
Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defeated Coco Gauff of the United States, 6-3, 7-6 to claim her third Madrid Open title, adding to her victories in 2021 and 2023. It is her third title of 2025, having also won in Brisbane and Miami. Sabalenka took the first set in decisive fashion. She failed to convert a break point opportunity on her first championship point, forcing a tiebreak. A double fault by Coco Gauff at the conclusion of the match gave Sabalenka the victory.
Sabalenka said, “It was a really tough match. At the end of the second set, it was really intense and I was very emotional. I was happy I was able to handle my emotions.”
Men’s Final: Casper Ruud Wins Madrid Open Title
Casper Ruud of Norway defeated Great Britain’s Jack Draper to win the Madrid Open title in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4. It is Ruud’s first Masters 1000 title. Draper, who won at Indian Wells in March, was aiming to win his second title of the year and his first on clay.
Ruud’s victory in Madrid was his thirteenth career title, twelve of which have been won on clay. He defeated Danil Medvedev of Russia and Taylor Fritz of the United States in the early rounds and prevailed over Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the semifinals to set up the final with Draper. In making the final, Draper moves past Serbia’s Novak Djokovic into the top five.
