Mirra Andreeva Wins Women’s Title Over Aryna Sabalenka

Seventeen-year-old Mirra Andreeva of Russia defeated Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, coming back from a set down 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to capture the title at Indian Wells. Andreeva’s title at Indian Wells is her second consecutive Masters 1000 Series victory, coming one month after her title at Dubai. She said of her victory, “I tried to run like a rabbit because Aryna was sending bullets across the net and it was hard.”

Andreeva, who showed early potential when she first arrived on the scene at age fifteen, has now realized that potential. Following her victory at Indian Wells, she rises to number six in the world.

Jack Draper Wins Men’s Title at Indian Wells

Jack Draper of Great Britain defeated Denmark’s Holger Rune in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 to become the fifth British man to win a Masters 1000 title. He defeated Rune in convincing style, as the Dane won only four games during the match. 

Draper defeated four top 15 opponents on the way to the final, including Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal. The Indian Wells title is the third and biggest of Draper’s career. He said, “It’s definitely a coming of age for me.” Draper joins Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski, Cameron Norrie and Andy Murray on the list of British Masters Series winners. He rises to number seven in the world following his victory at Indian Wells.
