Ukraine News:

European Leaders’ Summit

Written by Edda Bevilacqua

U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron met shortly before the European Leaders’ Summit to discuss the possible end to the war in Ukraine, in a conversation lasting twenty minutes. Macron spoke with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salm in Saudi Arabia. Topics discussed included Russia’s war in Ukraine and the role Saudi Arabia could play in fostering a solid and lasting peace with Europeans at the center of the process. Those in attendance included British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Germany’s Olaf Scholz, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni and Spain’s Pedro Sanchez. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was not present.

Zelenskyy is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to boost humanitarian support for Ukraine. He will go next to Turkey, then to Saudi Arabia, meeting the U.S. envoy to Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg. Zelenskyy said:

“It is important for him to understand everything and bring it back to the White House. I think that, after his visit, after he returns to the United States, we will understand when I will meet with President Trump.”

Zelenskyy added that he would never accept “any decisions between the United States and Russia about Ukraine,” or “any leader in the world who can really make a deal with Putin, without us, about us.”
