Zelenskyy Plans Security Conference with U.S. President Donald Trump

Written by Edda Bevilacqua

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he is willing to do a deal with U.S. President Donald Trump. He will meet with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance at the Munich Security Conference later this week. Zelenskyy said he is willing to supply the U.S. with rare earth materials in exchange for continued backing of the war effort by the United States. Zelenskyy said, “If we are talking about a deal, then let’s do a deal. We are only for it.”

Zelenskyy is also open to engaging in peace talks with Russia. He first came up with the idea of trading rare earth materials, used in the manufacture of consumer electronics and electric engines, under the Victory Plan for Ukraine he presented last fall. Zelenskyy warned that Russia could give these materials to Russia’s allies, Iran and North Korea. He said, “We need to stop Putin and protect what we have-a very rich Dnipro region-central Ukraine.”

U.S. President Donald Trump will not attend the Munich Security Conference, but Zelenskyy will meet with Vice President J.D. Vance and special envoy to Ukraine and Russia Lt. General Keith Kellogg.
