Zelenskyy Warns U.S. President Trump Against Unilateral Talks with Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that excluding Ukraine from talks with the United States and Russia would be “very dangerous” for his country. He said that U.S. President Donald Trump could bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss sanctions on Russia’s energy and banking systems, as well as continuing support for Ukraine’s military. Zelenskyy said, “I think these are the closest and most important steps.”
These comments came after Trump’s comments that Russian and American officials were “already talking about ending the war.” Zelenskyy said, “They may have their own relations, but talking about Ukraine without us-it is dangerous for everyone.”
U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to end the war in Ukraine within six months of taking office, but it is unclear how a ceasefire could take place. Russia has made steady gains along the front and Ukraine suffers severe manpower shortages. Constant Russian attacks on power systems have plunged entire cities into darkness. Nearly one-fifth of Ukraine is currently occupied by Russia.
Zelenskyy says a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump is essential: “I believe, first and foremost, we must hold a meeting with him and that is important. And that is, by the way, something that everyone in Europe wants, a common vision of a quick end to the war.”
