U.S. President Trump Wants to Meet Putin to Discuss End of Ukraine War

U.S. President Donald Trump stated he wishes to meet “immediately” with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. Trump said, while addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, “From what I hear, Putin would like to see me, and we’ll leave as soon as we can. I’d meet immediately.” He continued, “Every day we don’t meet, soldiers are being killed on the battlefield.”

He called for the Saudi Arabian-led OPEC cartel to reduce the cost of oil, which would make it more difficult for Russia to continue its war with Ukraine: “If the price came down, the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately.” 

The Kremlin said that Putin was ready for a telephone conference with U.S. President Donald Trump. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov said, “Putin is ready. We are waiting for signals. Everyone is ready. As soon as there is something, if there is something, we will inform you.” 

Putin said he is ready to speak with U.S. President Trump as soon as possible: “We have always said, and I want to emphasize this once again, that we are ready for these negotiations with the United States.”
