Iga Swiatek Wins Third French Open Title

Iga Swiatek of Poland defeated Italy’s Jasmine Paolini to claim her third consecutive French Open title. Swiatek prevailed in straight sets over Paolini 6-2, 6-1. She has won a total of four French Open titles overall and, at 23 years of age, has become the youngest woman to achieve four French Open titles. Swiatek now has a total of five Major Championships, having also won the 2022 U.S. Open.

Iga Swiatek joins Chris Evert, Steffi Graf and Justine Henin in winning four French Open titles and has equaled Justine Henin’s achievement of three consecutive French Open titles.

Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Alexander Zverev to Win First French Open Title

Carlos Alcaraz of Spain defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev in five sets 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 to claim his first French Open title and his third Major Championship, adding the French Open title to his triumphs at the U.S. Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023. Zverev experienced another defeat in a final, having lost to Dominic Thiem of Austria at the 2020 U.S. Open.

Alcaraz easily took the first set but lost the next two. He regrouped to take the fourth and fifth sets and the championship. Alcaraz, at 21, became the youngest man to win Major titles on all three surfaces (clay, grass and hard courts). He has a perfect record in Major championship finals.
