Opening Ceremonies of Paris, 2024 Games to be Held at Sunset, July 26

Written by Edda Bevilacqua

The Paris, 2024 Olympic Games, which open July 26, will feature the first Opening Ceremonies to be held outside a stadium setting. The Games will open at sunset, 7:30 p.m. Paris time. The Opening Ceremonies will be held outdoors, in line with the Paris Organizing Committee theme: “Games Wide Open.” About 10,000 athletes will parade through the heart of the French capital on the Seine River.

The organizers call it “an unprecedented experience, using the natural light of the setting sun with all its nuances to illuminate the river promenade of all the world’s best athletes along the Seine in the heart of the capital.”

The French government said the anticipated crowd of 600,000 would be reduced to 300,000, due to both security concerns and logistical issues. Free access will be given to the Paris Olympic Games only by invitation.
