Gymnastics, Swimming, Track and Field on Middle Saturday of Games

Three athletes in three different disciplines, Simone Biles (gymnastics), Katie Ledecky (swimming) and Sha’ Carri Richardson (track and field), could all potentially win gold medals on the middle Saturday (August 3, 2024) of the Paris Olympic Games.

The women’s vault competition in gymnastics is scheduled to take place at 10:19 Eastern Standard Time (EST). Simone Biles is the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the event and a two-time world champion in the vault.

Katie Ledecky will be competing in 800-meter freestyle swimming event, where she could become the first woman to win the same event four times. On February 8, Canada’s Summer McIntosh became the first competitor to defeat Ledecky, but she might not be competing in Paris.

Sha ‘Carri Richardson could be competing in the 100-meter semifinals and final of the women’s 100-meter track and field event around the same time as the 800-meter swimming event finishes. Richardson won the 100-meters in her World Championships debut and could become the first American since Gail Devers in 1992 and 1996 to repeat as Olympic champion.

This would mark the second time all three events were contested on the middle Saturday of the Olympic Games since the 1988 Games in Seoul, South Korea.
